PRESS: Ministry blasts Domodedovo’s plan to build 6 landing strips
MOSCOW, Sep 9 (PRIME) -- The Russian Transport Ministry is against extension of capacity of Moscow’s Domodeovo airport to eight landing strips from two, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday, citing sources with knowledge of the issue.
Domodedovo plans to build six more landing strips under a concession agreement by 2040 in order to create a transit hub between Europe and Asia. The airport estimates its investments at 741 billion rubles, of which 457 billion rubles would be borrowed money.
According to the sources, Transport Minister Yevgeny Ditrikh had sent a draft report to President Vladimir Putin, criticizing the Domodedovo’s plan. Construction of additional landing strips does not correspond with the 2030 air traffic development plan and will cause safety issues. Besides is will create discriminatory conditions for other airports, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo.
